Islington courtyard garden

The Place:
East Canonbury Conservation Area.

The Brief:
To create a secluded sanctuary with space to entertain and sunbathe for a beautiful home in the East Canonbury Conservation Area.

The couple have a little French bulldog that likes to explore so it was important  to design a dog friendly space.

Lighting was an essential element to consider in this design, to allow entertaining to go on into the wee hours!

The Design:
Warm tones of stone and tiling make the garden feel like an extension of the indoors, with comfortable seating and space to dine; evocative of an Ibizan villa terrace!

The planting is verdant and full, surrounding the seating areas in cool calming greenery. We have retained the mature birch and acer to keep height and existing wildlife happy. Scented jasmin will climb up the walls adding heady perfume to the night.

Raised beds not only add structure and definition within the space, they also mean their dog can't snack on any plants that wouldn’t be good for him.

The lighting creates a beautiful ambience within the planted areas making late night entertaining a possibility.
